Notable ETF Movers of the Day :

Gainers

  • Financial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLF) up 1.57% to $16.50. Trading higher today, led by J.P. Morgan (NYSE: JPM), which is 2.43% better today, following announcements by CEO Jamie Dimon that they would be reinstating their dividend policy, and looking for a payout ratio of 35% (which would be about $1.60 annualized when looking at FY12 EPS estimates).

  • United States Oil (NYSE: USO) up 0.57% to $39.10. The EIA reported a 2.2 million barrel decrease in crude inventories, but analysts were looking for a drop of only 300K barrels. Gasoline supplies increased 5.1 million barrels, versus the consensus of 2.9 million. Also distillate stockpiles increased 2.7 million barrels, compared to estimates calling for a 1.6 million barrel increase.

  • iShares FTSE China 25 Index Fund (NYSE: FXI) up 2.20% to $44.76. China stock strong as the aviation industry reported a 37% increase in profits for 2010, and earnings across the board instilled confidence in investors and traders. Property stocks gained the most on the Shanghai Composite, closing 1.8% better.

Receders

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) down 4.18% to $33.48. Strength in the financial sector, led by JPM and US Bank (NYSE: USB), along with hopes of an expanded European bailout, is driving confidence in the markets today.

  • SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) down 0.22% to $134.61. Lower today over easing European debt concerns. Two important points include the fall of Portugal's borrowing costs as well as German Chancellor Angela Merkel hinting that the country would aid its ailing brethren.

  • PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP) down 0.49% to $23.15. Lower on the above news, and also that export and import prices increase, though less than they had in November. Investors appear to be exiting the U.S. currency and metals in favor of the euro on reduced debt fears.
