Retail sales showed sign of strong consumer spending in November as the holiday shopping season gets off to a strong start.
Among the biggest winners in the retail market was Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (NYSE: ANF), which posted a same store sales rise of 22 percent last month. Shares of the trendy apparel retailer are up 9.83 percent to $55.40 in midday market movement on Thursday.
Limited Brands Inc. (NYSE: LTD) posted a 10 percent rise in November comps, The Buckle Inc. (NYSE: BKE) comps up 7.9 percent, and the The Wet Seal Inc. (NASDAQ: WTSLA) said same store sales last month rose 7 percent last month.
Rival in the clothing market, American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE: AEO) posts November comps remaining flat.
Larger retailers showed signs of strength in November led by Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT) reporting comps up 5.5 percent and Macy's Inc. (NYSE: M) up 6.1 percent.
Kohl's Corp. (NYSE: KSS) same store sales rose 6.1 percent last month, J.C. Penney Co. (NYSE: JCP) comps up 9.2 percent and Costco Wholesale Corp. (NASDAQ: COST) up 9 percent.
