Notable ETF Movers of the Day 11/03: KRE, USO, VXX Higher; GLD, XRT, MOO Lower (AGU, CASY, FFBC)

Gainers

  • SPDR KBW Regional Banking (NYSE: KRE) up 1.30% to $22.60. Being led higher today by First Financial Bancorp (Nasdaq: FFBC), which reported a third quarter adjusted EPS of $0.37, coming in eleven cents better than the Street consensus of $0.26. Shares of FFBC are 6.2% higher today.

  • United States Oil (NYSE: USO) up 0.25% to $36.36. Higher despite EIA reports of an increase in crude inventories by 1.95 million barrels for the week ended October 29, 2010. Reuters poll showed an increase of 1.2 million barrels. Imports fell by 885K barrels per day to 8.55 million barrels per day.

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) up 0.70% to $12.93. The CBOE VIX near-term volatility index is trading higher today as investors try to gain position ahead of FOMC meeting results.

Receders

  • SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) down 1.82% to $130.08. Gold prices are fluctuating along with the U.S. dollar today ahead of FOMC meeting results, which are expected this afternoon. Quantitative easing is expected, though the extent of which will be what investors are focusing on. Some speculate that the Fed will infuse less into the system, and do it over a longer period than previously thought.

  • SPDR S&P Retail (NYSE: XRT) down 0.62% to $43.48. Being led today by Casey's General Stores (Nasdaq: CASY), which is down 4.2% after announcing that they were ending buyout talks with 7-eleven. The offer from 7-eleven was for the acquisition of all outstading Casey's common shares for $43 per share.
    Additionally, Casey's announced that they were acquiring 44 Kabredlo's convenience store locations, located mainly in Nebraska and Kansas.

  • Market Vectors Agribusiness ETF (NYSE: MOO) down 0.78% to $50.59. Though not a major holding in the ETF, Agrium Inc. (NYSE: AGU) is lower following a third quarter miss, though they guided fourth quarter results above Street views. Citi also downgraded the shares from Buy to Hold. The stock is down 3.5% on the day.
