Analysts at IHS Automotive today lowered the firm's US auto sales forecast for this year from 11.5 million to 11.3 million. Looking ahead to next year, the market-information service sees vehicle sales in the US surging by about 13% to 12.8 million. IHS said it believes increasing employment and consumer confidence should drive sales higher next year.

The revision at IHS today comes ahead of the release of the major automakers September sales figures on Friday of this week. The Street is currently looking for domestic sales of 8.6 million and total vehicle sales of 11.5 million during September.
