  • United States Oil (NYSE: USO) up 1.40% to $34.08. Many analysts are seeing a strong correlation between oil prices and equities markets. Additionally, economic data came in overall better than expectations, with Industrial Production at 1%, about 0.4% ahead of Street views.

  • SPDR S&P Homebuilders (NYSE: XHB) up 3.12% to $14.55. Although housing data missed views today, construction rose 1.7% in July, mostly from the construction of apartments and condos.

Receders

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) down 4.15% to $22.63. The CBOE VIX volatility index is showing some weakness, down 7.85% so far, as investors are buying back into the markets on economic data, and word that the U.S. will keep backing the mortgage market, but a system should be created to prevent further mortgage meltdown.

  • PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP) down 0.29% to $23.89. Investors getting back into equities today as economic data is shining a bright light on the markets. The U.S. dollar is typically thought of as a safe haven against riskier assets.
