UBS Retail Sales Wrap-Up: August the True Barometer for BTS, but a Teen Market Shift Could be Emerging

UBS analyst says, "July showed that the consumer remains volatile, but retailers with the right product and value are best positioned to take share."

Teen pricing war driving market share shift (and gross margin pressure)? It appears Abercrombie & Fitch's (NYSE: ANF) aggressive promotions have let some steam out of Aeropostale (NYSE: ARO). As pricing comes down, ARO and American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE: AEO) will likely follow suit. UBS analyst says Limited (NYSE: LTD) remains a standout heading into 2H.

Raise 2Q Estimates: Gap, Inc. (NYSE: GPS), LTD; Lower FY Est: AEO, ARO; Lower PT: ARO, Chico's FAS (NYSE: CHS).
