Target (TGT) April Sales Drop More Than Expected, But Sees EPS At Or Above Current Views

May 6, 2010 8:41 AM EDT
Target (NYSE: TGT) reports a 5.9% drop in same store sales during April, below the 2.3% drop analysts had expected. Total sales for the month came in at $4.288 billion, down 3.5% from the same month last year.

The company said while sales were down more than expected, April sales for higher margin categories remained strong, and both business segments continue to outperform their respective profit plans.

As a result, Target expects first quarter EPS will meet or exceed the current First Call median estimate of 86 cents.
