Green Mountain (GMCR) Withdraws Notice of Report for Diedrich (DDRX); K-Cups Hot Item on Amazon.com (AMZN)

December 24, 2009, saw Green Mountain (NASDAQ: GMCR) withdraw their Notice of Report Form for the acquisition of Diedrich Coffee (NASDAQ: DDRX). However, the K-Cup maker had dominated some of Amazon.com's (NASDAQ: AMZN) bestseller lists over the holiday season, which might be both good and bad for Green Mountain.

Diedrich was the leader in grocery bestseller's, their Coffee People, Donut Shop K-Cups was number 1 and had 218 days in the top 100. Santa's Buzz K-Cup was number 4, and has 98 days in the top 100.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, the Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter was number 1 in Home & Garden and Kitchen & Dining, and has 476 days in the top 100.

Weighing both sides, it will be interesting to see how this merger turns out. Are consumers sold on the reusable K-Cups? Are the pre-packed cups cheaper (reviews had comments seeing them for as low as $0.25/ea.)?
