J. C. Penney Company, Inc. (NYSE: JCP) reports total sales for the month of April were $1.266 billion, down 5% from the same period last year. Same store sales fell 6.6%.
Sees May sales down 9-12% on a same store basis.
Based on better-than-expected sales results in the April period, operational efficiencies achieved through process improvements and a consistent focus on expense control, management expects earnings for Q1 to be in a range of $0.09-$0.11 per share. The Street is currently looking for Q1 EPS of $0.02.
