Piqqem Sentiment Report: Four Tech Horsemen Post Earnings Period (AMZN, AAPL, GOOG, RIMM)

April 28, 2009 12:13 PM EDT
After strong Q1 earnings reports in April from Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN), Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) and RIM (Nasdaq: RIMM) on the heels of strong upward movements in these names, Piqqem Sentiment for the Four Horsemen of Tech has more or less flattened with very slight upwards momentum in the past two weeks. The overarching trend over the past three months has been, however, downward.

Overall, Piqqem Sentiment as of April 27 for Apple remains the highest (2.7 on a scale of 0-to-4) followed by Google (2.56) then Amazon (2.47) then RIM (2.22). Average sentiment for the quarter was 2.49, a moderately bullish aggregate sentiment. This compares to February 27 Piqqem Sentiments for Apple of 2.67, Google of 2.56, Amazon of 2.50, and RIM of 2.39, or an average aggregate sentiment of 2.53 (a four basis point decline). The upshot of all this? The Four Horsemen of Tech are dropping slightly on a sentiment basis but remain moderately in positive territory (above 2.0) in terms of overall crowd sentiment.

In the more recent period (the past two weeks), Apple moved upwards slightly, due to the positive momentum behind the iPhone and its continued success. Google trended slightly downward as its shares waffled in choppy up-down trading. Amazon leveled off after a strong post-earnings bump. RIM looked relatively solid with a very minor negative basis point movement downwards. All told, the techs look pretty strong in terms of sentiment to weather whatever is left of the bear market, despite the rapid run up of recent months. While expectations and sentiment appears to have moderated, its still fairly positive for the Four Horsemen of Tech.
