Yorkville Ives analyst Dan Ives initiates coverage on Paymentus (NYSE: PAY) with a Outperform rating and a price target of $40.00.
The analyst comments "We are initiating coverage of Paymentus (PAY) with an OUTPERFORM rating and $40 PT. We view Paymentus as an underappreciated cloud payments platform positioned to benefit from the continued modernization of the massive, fragmented, and largely recurring bill-pay ecosystem. The company’s proprietary Instant Payment Network connects billers, financial institutions, technology partners, consumers, and businesses through a unified platform that supports digital bill presentment, payments, disbursements, and money movement across a broad range of channels and payment methods. Unlike more discretionary areas of payments, Paymentus is concentrated in essential and recurring sectors like utilities, insurance, government, healthcare, telecommunications, property management, and financial services, therefore providing the company with a durable transaction base and exposure to payments that consumers must make regardless of the economic environment. Paymentus now serves over 2,500 billers and financial institutions, while its platform processed 724 million payments during FY25, demonstrating meaningful scale while leaving substantial room for further penetration in the early stages of digitizing a market that is still burdened by legacy systems, fragmented vendors, paper-based processes, and inconsistent consumer experiences. In our view, the Instant Payment Network creates a powerful flywheel: as Paymentus adds billers, financial institutions, partners, payment methods, and real-time capabilities, the network becomes increasingly valuable to every participant and more deeply integrated into customers’ core billing operations. The company is also beginning to layer AI across this infrastructure through its AI-native Service Commerce strategy. Billeo, the broader Service Commerce suite, and BillWallet, an AI-powered payment identity and wallet designed to reduce login and checkout friction, are intended to transform static bills, invoices, and statements into intelligent and interactive experiences that help consumers understand, manage, and complete payments with less friction. We believe this expands Paymentus beyond transaction processing and into the broader customer-engagement layer, creating opportunities to deepen relationships and increase digital adoption. As billers modernize their technology stacks, Paymentus can use the core payment relationship as the entry point for a broader set of service, engagement, and revenue-collection workflows."
