Oppenheimer analyst Colin Rusch reiterated an Outperform rating on Amprius Technologies (NYSE: AMPX).
The analyst commented: "With AMPX announcing a $75M grant from the US Department of War (DoW) to retrofit a US-based EV battery plant for its technology, we believe the company is removing one of the primary bear cases on the stock, expanding capacity to meet growing demand, and doing it in a capital efficient manner. We understand AMPX's contributions to the project are in-kind and expect any incremental cash outlays will be modest and largely related to project management. We believe the facility will support ~$150M+ of revenue capacity and is expected to be online in early 2028. We note the fact that this is a grant not a loan signals both the urgency of the project and the importance of AMPX as a supplier to DoW programs. We would expect shares to trade higher on the news and anticipate the company will provide more detail on the project and its implications on its 3Q26 conference call. We expect shares to trade higher on the news."
