Williams Trading analyst Sam Poser lowered the price target on Dick's Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS) to $130.00 (from $215.00) while maintaining a Hold rating.
The analyst comments "Lowering PT from $215 to $130, and reducing estimates. While, as DKS management says, there is a problem with an overabundance of basic core lifestyle shoes which are hurting the Foot Locker business, which comped down 3.6% in 2Q26 (Consensus: +0.9%), the bigger problem is that DKS' management and the leaders of Foot Locker U.S. and Foot Locker International do not understand Foot Locker consumers as well as DKS' management understands the Dick's Sporting Goods consumers. The overabundance of core basis athletic lifestyle shoes from NIke (NKE-Buy-$57 PT), Adidas (ADS/BER-NR), New Balance (Private), and others is more reflective of buying too much seemingly "safe" shoes, and failing to identify the appropriate newness. Granted, outside some running styles, and a handful of training and basketball styles, compelling newness in fashion athletic has been hard to come by. The problem is that the leaders of DKS do not fully understand the fashion athletic consumer as well as they understand the fashion athletic consumer. Also, the President of Foot Locker North America has no experience leading multi-branded retail, despite years of experience at Nike, and experience leading grocery chains is not a qualifier for the President of Foot Locker International."
