JPMorgan analyst Brian Ossenbeck raised the price target on Union Pacific (NYSE: UNP) to $267.00 (from $241.00) while maintaining a Neutral rating.
The analyst commented, "Union Pacific’s very strong operating performance in 2Q25 was quickly overshadowed by the somewhat surprising announcement confirming that the company was in advanced talks with Norfolk Southern on a potential combination. CEO Jim Vena provided a brief glimpse of the underlying thesis behind a transcontinental network and it was clear to us that the process has been underway for some time and could be picking up speed. It is difficult to say what the tipping point was to approach NS, but it likely includes a wide range of factors including the current operating performance of the UP network, which is stellar."
