General Motors (NYSE: GM) is hosting capital markets day on October 7 in Detroit. Morgan Stanley analyst, Adam Jonas expects the company to attempt to position itself as more of a transportation technology platform that can take advantage of its vertically integrated manufacturing expertise and valuable market positions.

Jonas also expects GM to display its abilities across several important enabling technologies and business units including Autonomy, EV vehicles and Batteries as well-as Hydrogen vehicles among others.

Morgan Stanley believes that it is important for General Motors to leave the investment community with the sense of urgency at the capital markets day. They’re hoping that GM can show investors that they are taking the necessary steps to attract capital and talent that will allow GM to be successful.

Jonas also believes that the company needs to be transparent to help analyst and the investment community to both model and value the company’s critical tech-oriented business units.

Jonas reiterated an Overweight rating and $80.00 price target on GM.
