The Dow Gained 23 Points, Nasdaq Added 9

The Dow gained 23.15 points today to close at 12,765.01 the Nasdaq added 8.72 points to close at 2,497.10, and the S&P 500 gained 1.51 points to close at 1,456.81. The Fed Chairman's comments were viewed positively on Wall Street today. Bernanke's stance and speech addresses the most important economic issues from raising of the minimum wage to inflation to foreign policy. Separately, Oil fell $0.01 to close at $57.99.

Volume was modest with 2.55 billion shares trading on the NYSE and 2.03 billion trading on the Nasdaq. Advancers topped Decliners by a margin of 19:13 on the NYSE and 16:15 on the Nasdaq.

In Individual stories, Spartan Motors (Nasdaq: SPAR) added almost 36% after reporting Q4 EPS of $0.26 (ex-items), 9 cent worse than estimates. Revenues were $123.6 million vs. $102.34 million consensus. TRX, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRXI) lost 39% after reporting Q4 EPS of $0.07, 5 cents better than estimates. Revenues were $26.1 million vs. $23.74 million consensus. However, TRXI sees FY07 EPS between $0.00 and a loss of $0.10 vs. consensus of $0.46. Sees FY07 revenues between $85 to $90 million vs. $104.41 million consensus.

Companies expected to report earnings tomorrow are: Campbell Soup (NYSE: CPB), Goodyear Tire (NYSE: GT), Hormel Foods (NYSE: HRL), J.M. Smucker (NYSE: SJM), Sierra Pacific (NYSE: SRP), and Visteon (NYSE: VC).

Tomorrow, investors will be looking for economic data on PPI and Core PPI, January Housing Starts, Building Permits and University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment.
