The Dow Lost 88 Points, Nasdaq Fell 20
The Dow lost 88.37 points today to close at 12,477.16, the Nasdaq fell 20.24 points to close at 2,431.07,
and the S&P 500 lost 7.55 points to close at 1,422.95. Boeing was the big loser on the Dow, pulling it lower, after a downgrade from Wahovia. The Nasdaq fell almost 1% as investors continue to move money out of technology. Oil also dropped $0.86 to close at $51.13.
Volume was modest with 2.71 billion shares trading on the NYSE and 1.98 billion trading on the Nasdaq.
Decliners topped Advancers by a margin of 21:12 on the NYSE and 20:11 on the Nasdaq.
In Individual stories, SBE, Inc. (Nasdaq: SBEI) gained 67.8% after the company and Neonode, a privately-held, Swedish mobile handset developer, announced today the execution of a definitive merger agreement. Star Scientific Inc. (Nasdaq: STSI) fell 32% as the stock continued Friday's slide after ruling in RJ Reynolds (NYSE: RAI) case goes against the company.
Tomorrow, investors will be looking for earnings from Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD), AK Steel (NYSE: AKS), Avaya (NYSE: AV), Bank of America (NYSE: BAC), Brinker Int'l (NYSE: EAT), Centex (NYSE: CTX), Coach (NYSE: COH), DuPont (NYSE: DD), EMC Corp (NYSE: EMC), Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ), National City (NYSE: NCC), Pactiv Corp (NYSE: PTV), Seagate Technologies (NYSE: STX), STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW), Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO) United Technologies (NYSE: UTX), Wachovia (NYSE: WB), and Xerox (NYSE: XRX).
Traders will be looking for economic data from Oil Inventories tomorrow (10:30AM EST).
