Nuvelo Inc. (Nasdaq: NUVO) 81% LOWER; Nuvelo and Bayer HealthCare (NYSE: BAY) announced top-line data demonstrating that the Phase 3 clinical trial of alfimeprase in acute peripheral arterial occlusion (PAO), known as NAPA-2 (Novel Arterial Perfusion with Alfimeprase-2), did not meet its primary endpoint of avoidance of open vascular surgery within 30 days of treatment. The companies also announced that the Phase 3 trial in catheter occlusion (CO), known as SONOMA-2 (Speedy Opening of Non-functional and Occluded catheters with Mini-dose Alfimeprase- 2), did not meet the endpoint of restoration of function at 15 minutes. These trials did not meet key secondary endpoints.

Mitcham Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIND) 13.7% HIGHER; The Company reported net income of $3.9 million, or $0.38 per diluted share, for the third quarter of fiscal 2007 compared to net income of $2.9 million, or $0.29 per diluted share, for the third quarter of fiscal 2006. Total revenues for the third quarter increased 30 percent to $12.7 million compared to $9.8 million in the same period last year.

Sabre Holdings Corp. (NYSE: TSG) 11.9% HIGHER; According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, Sabre Holdings has put itself up for sale, with private-equity groups seen as the most likely purchasers. Sabre Holdings could be acquired at a premium to its $3.75 billion market cap.

@Road, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARDI) 8.6% HIGHER; Trimble (Nasdaq: TRMB) entered into a definitive agreement to acquire @Road. Under the terms of the transaction, Trimble will acquire all of the outstanding shares of @Road for $7.50 per share. @Road shareholders will receive $5.00 per share in cash and the remaining $2.50 per share in consideration will be a mixture of cash and/or Trimble stock to be determined at Trimble's sole discretion.

Taro Pharmaceutical (Nasdaq: TARO) 7.9% HIGHER; According to reports from Reuters, citing the Yedioth Ahronoth daily, Taro Pharmaceutical is in talks to be acquired by Ofer Hi-Tech Group. An offer for Taro could be worth $450 million.

Cepheid (Nasdaq: CPHD) 5.4% HIGHER; received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to market its Smart GBS test for Group B Streptococcus (GBS) on its SmartCycler platform. Smart GBS is intended for rapid detection of GBS colonization in pregnant women.

Biomet Inc. (Nasdaq: BMET) 5% HIGHER; According to reports from Reuters, Smith & Nephew Plc (NYSE: SNN) plans to offer $11 billion for Biomet Inc., citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

Claire's Stores Inc. (NYSE: CLE) 4.6% HIGHER; reports company moving closer to a sale.

Level 3 Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: LVLT) 3% HIGHER; added to the NASDAQ-100 Index on Monday, December 18.

Phelps Dodge Corp. (NYSE: PD) 1.7% HIGHER; SAC Capital opposes merger with Freeport-McMoRan.
