The Dow Gained 54 Points, Nasdaq Added 6

The Dow gained 54.11 points today to close at 12,305.82, the Nasdaq added 6.31 points to close at 2,449.06 and the S&P 500 gained 3.19 points to close at 1,399.76. Oil fell $2.50 to close at $56.26.

Trading volume was heavy with 2.9 billion shares trading on the NYSE and 2.13 billion on the Nasdaq.
Advancers topped Decliners by a margin of 17:15 on the NYSE, and 15.3:15 on the Nasdaq.

In individual stories, Irvine Sensors Corp (Nasdaq: IRSN) gained 123% after the Company received approximately $16.6 million of new contract and product orders, including options, in the first six weeks of fiscal 2007. The Bombay Company (NYSE: BBA) dropped 19.4% after reporting a Q3 loss of $0.43, 10 cents worse than estimates. Revenues were $108.2 million vs. $124.69 million consensus.

Tomorrow, investors will be looking for earnings reports from AnnTaylor (NYSE: ANN), JM Smucker (NYSE: SJM), Kirklands (Nasdaq: KIRK) and Top Tankers (Nasdaq: TOPT).

Traders will be looking for economic data on the October Housing Starts and Building Permits (8:30AM EST).
