The Dow Adds 47 Points, Nasdaq Gains 6

The Dow added 46.51 points today to close at 11,381.47, the Nasdaq gained 6.34 points to close at 2,163.95 and the S&P 500 added 2.87 points to close at 1,302.30. The markets closed higher for a fifth straight day as investor confidence continues to grow. Oil closed at $71.14, up $1.08.

Volume was modest with 1.34 billion shares trading on the NYSE and 1.73 billion on the Nasdaq. Advancers topped decliners by a margin of 19:14 on the NYSE and 16:14 on the Nasdaq.

In individual stories, Mills Corp. (NYSE: MLS) added 25% today after upgrades from RBC and S&P Equity Research. Cost Plus (Nasdaq: CPWM) fell 21.3% today after reporting a Q2 loss of $0.34, 3 cents better than estimates.(-.37) Revenues were $215.3 million vs. $215.77 million consensus. Sees Q3 loss between $0.38-0.46 vs. consensus for a loss of $0.09. Sees Revenues between $213-221 million vs. $222.68 million consensus. Sees FY EPS between $0.21-0.40 vs. $0.46 consensus. Also, Raymond James downgraded Cost Plus to Underperform.

Monday, investors will be looking for earnings from Lowe's (NYSE: LOW) and Bob Evans (Nasdaq: BOBE)
