Anthem (ANTM) Tops Q2 EPS by 35c; Updates FY15 Outlook

Anthem (NYSE: ANTM) reported Q2 EPS of $3.10, $0.35 better than the analyst estimate of $2.75. Revenue for the quarter came in at $19.8 billion versus the consensus estimate of $19.63 billion.
Membership: Medical enrollment totaled approximately 38.5 million members at June 30, 2015, an increase of approximately 1.3 million members, or 3.4 percent, from 37.3 million at June 30, 2014. Medicaid enrollment increased by 940,000 members and the Commercial & Specialty Business enrollment increased by 237,000 medical members as the Company experienced growth in the National and Local Group markets, partially offset by a decline in Individual enrollment. Enrollment also grew in the Medicare business and Federal Employee Program by 50,000 and 28,000, respectively.
Anthem sees FY2015 EPS of over $10.00, versus the consensus of $10.10. Anthem sees FY2015 revenue of about $78.0 billion, versus the consensus of $78.15 billion. Medical membership is now expected to be in the range of 38,250,000 – 38,450,000. Fully insured membership is now expected to be in the range of 14,800,000 – 14,900,000 and self-funded membership is expected to be in the range of 23,450,000 – 23,550,000.
