Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry weighed in on what to expect from Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) conference call today at 11:00 AM West Coast Time.
Chowdhry thinks Tesla might announce an upgraded package for TSLA Roadster customers. He highlighted:
- TSLA had sold about 2,600 Roadsters so far in 31 countries, before the production of Roadsters were stopped in 2012
- The Upgrade package to Roadster may include
- Upgraded Battery pack, which could increase the range of the Roadster to more than 300 miles, from current 245 miles
- Roadster customers to be able to take benefits of free Superchargers
- Some facelift carbon fiber package, to give the roadster an even more aggressive look
- Probably, center console similar to the 17" display on currently shipping Model S
- Price of the Roadster upgrade package could be in the range of $10,000 to $20,000
- If the above is true, our research indicates that more than 50% or 1,300 Roadster customer may upgrade, giving TSLA an incremental revenue opportunity of between $13 million and $26 million
- But more than revenue opportunity, TSLA may strategically differentiate itself by conveying to the customers, that no-matter how old is the car, TSLA will bring its latest technologies to its older cars also - Roadsters were first sold in 2008
