UBS upgraded AMN Healthcare Services (NYSE: AHS) from Neutral to Buy with a price target of $27. Analyst A.J. Rice said management meetings painted a positive picture, and he sees sustainable growth.
"The demand backdrop for AMN's services continues to be robust, consistent with the reacceleration that began in 2Q14. The strong demand is being driven by an improving economy (which has stabilized hospital vols and has started to lead some nurses to dial back on their willingness to work extra shifts), as well as healthcare reform (which has helped hospital finances by reducing bad debt and has had a beneficial impact on vols)," said Rice.
"While strengthened demand started last summer, AMN is also pointing to a more recent acceleration in the number of nurses willing to take a travel nursing assignment. This supply increase is also being driven by an improving economy, as nurses are becoming more confident, given an increase in jobs postings, that if they take a travel assignment, there will be a permanent job available when, and if, they return home," added the analyst.
