Several large holders of Comerica (NYSE: CMA) stock are said to have urged a sale of the bank, according to Dow Jones Newswires.
UPDATE - Those pushing for a sale include two top-ten Comerica holders who generally don't make public comments.
The bank sale would be the largest in the post-financial-crisis era.
In a statement issued to the WSJ today, Comerica said: Our focus is, and has always been, on our shareholders and delivering performance to maximize value and meet their expectations.
Shares of Comerica are up 3.7 percent after spiking up over 6 percent on the headlines.
