Notable ETF Movers of the Day 05/30: (VXX) (GDX) (UUP) Higher; (UNG) (XLF) Lower
Gainers
- iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) up 5.52 percent to $20.28. The CBOE VIX is up about 12 percent on the session Wednesday as U.S. markets slump on euro zone worries, with Spanish banks showing stability issues and euro zone economic sentiments slipped to 90.6 in May, from 92.9 the prior month and expectations calling for a 92.0 reading.
- Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDX) up 1.09 percent to $44.57. Miners getting a little boost from Sterne Agee today, which made a call on several in the sector. In addition, gold is moving higher as investors seeking a haven from volatility.
- PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP) up 0.51 percent to $22.92. The dollar is firm on the session as investors move out of the euro on Spanish bank worries.
- United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) down 1.96 percent to $17.03. Nat gas is still doing some correcting today amid overall market pressure, as cooler temps are expected to remain in much of the U.S. over the next week.
- Financial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLF) down 2.04 percent to $13.93. Financials taking it on the chin with the situation in Spain and the rest of Europe remaining grim. Leading the move lower are Citi (NYSE: C) and BofA (NYSE: BAC), down 3.4 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively.
