Notable ETF Movers of the Day 02/02: (FXI) (UNG) (GLD) Higher; (USO) (VXX) (XLV) Lower

  • iShares FTSE China 25 Index Fun (NYSE: FXI) up 1.73 percent to $40.10. China stocks moving higher with global markets following solid economic data out of the U.S. as well as Greece nearing a debt deal. The Shanghai composite finished about 2 percent higher Thursday.

    U.S. first-time jobless claims fell 12K to 367K last week, while productivity increased 0.7 percent.

  • United States Natural Gas Fund (NYSE: UNG) up 3.27 percent to $5.22. The EIA reported net gas stockpiles fell 132 billion cubic feet last week, wider than expectations for a drop of 129 billion cubic feet. Stockpiles of 2.97 trillion cubic feet are still above one- and five-year levels.

  • SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE: GLD) up 0.74 percent to $170.82. Gold is on the move Thursday, following more momentum of lower Fed rates following new jobless claims data. Many investor could be heading again the potential devaluation off the U.S. dollar on extended lower rates. April contracts are seeing the most activity Thursday, with prices up $11.5 to $1,761.0 per ounce on the Comex.

  • United States Oil Fund (NYSE: USO) down 1.63 percent to $36.77. Crude continues to be hampered by weaker demand and rising inventories, recent data show. The EIA said crude demand fell to 17.653 million barrels per day last week, the lowest in 13 years. Production, meanwhile, is at a one-month low of 14.2 million barrels per day.

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short Term Fu (NYSE: VXX) down 1.68 percent to $25.69. The CBOE VIX is trading 1.3 percent higher Thursday, as markets become more complacent on economic data and European outlook

  • SPDR Select Sector Fund - Health (NYSE: XLV) down 0.84 percent to $35.85 The ETF is actually being led lower by Pfizer Thursday, following Pfizer's recall of 1 million Lo/Ovral-28 units. Lo/Ovral-28, and its generic, are a form of birth control, and Pfizer said there may have been some manufacturing issues with the lot.

    Well, Pfizer might be held accountable for unwanted pregnancies should some of the packages contain a placebo that is placed out of order. Pfizer is down about 2 percent on the session.
