Market Rumors:
Sunrise Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: SRZ): Hedge fund Millennium Partners, L.P. called on the Sunrise Board to take prompt action either to sell the company or to replace management.
Syntax-Brillian Corporation (Nasdaq: BRLC): Brean Murray said the stock has traded down in recent days on unsubstantiated rumors that Circuit City (NYSE: CC) is phasing out Olevia TVs and Sony's (NYSE: SNE) plan of selling TVs into Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT). The firm said Circuit City is not only continuing but also expanding orders and said Sony TVs are in a different price range.
Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (NYSE: BBV): Rumors Mexican billionaire and the world's second-richest man, Carlos Slim, was buying a stake in the company. A Slim representative denied the speculation.
NYMEX Holdings (NYSE: NMX): Takeover speculation following Chicago Mercantile Exchange (NYSE: CME) sweetened bid for CBOT Holdings (NYSE: BOT), which puts into question InterContinental Exchange (NYSE: ICE) hostile bid for CBOT. Market talk is centering around a possible NYMEX/ICE hook-up or the possibility of NYSE Euronext (NYSE: NYX) entering the mix to acquire one of the exchanges.
Chaparral Steel Company (Nasdaq: CHAP): Increased takeover speculation. In April the company hired Goldman Sachs to review options.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide (NYSE: HOT): Takeover talk continues and is heating up.
