(Reuters) - Pope Francis said his conservative critics within the Roman Catholic Church in the United States are trapped in a "suicidal attitude," according to an interview with CBS.

During the April 24 interview with "60 Minutes" that will air this Sunday, Pope Francis was asked his thoughts on the conservative backlash against his papacy, with many of his critics being American clergy members.

Brazil's government hikes 2024 GDP forecast, sees higher inflation May 16, 2024 01:06PM

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazil's Finance Ministry on Thursday hiked its projection for the country's economic growth this year but also raised inflation estimates for 2024 and 2025, underlining price impacts from recent floods in Rio Grande do Sul state.

Gross domestic product (GDP) in Latin America's largest economy is now expected to grow 2.5% in 2024, up from the 2.2% forecast in March, the ministry's economic policy secretariat said in a statement.

LISBON (Reuters) - Pope Francis is planning to visit Turkey next year to mark the anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea, the spiritual head of the world's Orthodox Christians said on Thursday.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Sales of agricultural inputs such as fertilizers and crop care products have been near normal in the United States despite lower grain prices, while they are not as good in South America, according to agricultural input producers.

US unveils proposal to ease restrictions on marijuana May 16, 2024 01:03PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department on Thursday unveiled a historic proposal to ease restrictions on marijuana, a rule that if enacted would also enable more research on its medicinal benefits.

The proposal, first announced in April, would reclassify cannabis from a so-called schedule one drug to a schedule three. Schedule one drugs, such as heroin, are considered highly addictive with no medical benefits,... (continue reading...)
