Dollar soft on renewed rate cut bets; yen starts week on back foot May 5, 2024 09:09PM

LONDON (Reuters) -The dollar was a touch lower on Monday as a soft U.S. jobs report boosted wagers that the Federal Reserve may still cut rates this year, while the yen lurched lower after last week's suspected intervention fuelled a wild ride.

Oil climbs as Gaza tensions rise, Saudi Arabia hikes prices May 5, 2024 09:47PM

LONDON (Reuters) -Oil futures climbed on Monday after Saudi Arabia hiked June crude prices for most regions and as the prospect of a Gaza ceasefire deal appeared slim, renewing fears the Israel-Hamas conflict could still widen in the key oil producing region.

Brent crude futures gained 73 cents, or 0.9%, to $83.69 a barrel at 0852 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures were at $78.95 a barrel, up 84 cents, or... (continue reading...)


Marseille garbage collectors strike ahead of Olympic torch arrival May 6, 2024 05:21AM

PARIS (Reuters) - Marseille's public administration asked the local state authority on Sunday to requisition striking garbage collection workers, compelling enough of them back to work to maintain a service, two days before the Olympic torch is expected to reach the port city.

(Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday announced more than $100 million in funding and resources to support American auto workers and small auto suppliers.

Historic contracts secured by the United Auto Workers with the Big Three Detroit automakers and recent organizing victories ensure that these jobs will provide comparable wages, retirement security and respect at work, the office of the VP said in a statement.
