Mercedes-Benz says US DOJ ended investigation into diesel emissions scandal Apr 27, 2024 12:26PM

BERLIN (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Justice has closed its probe into the Mercedes-Benz diesel emissions scandal and the car manufacturer is no longer facing charges, the company said on Saturday.

Mercedes-Benz cooperated fully with the DOJ, Renata Jungo Bruengger, board member for integrity, governance and sustainability at Mercedes, said in an emailed statement.

Russian think tank warns of stagnating industrial output, investment Apr 27, 2024 12:26PM

LONDON (Reuters) - Russia's industrial production and investments are stagnating, its exports of goods are continuing to deteriorate and profitability in most industries is declining, a think tank close to the government has said in a report.

BHP considering improved proposal for Anglo American after bid was rejected, source says Apr 27, 2024 11:45AM

(Reuters) -BHP Group is considering making an improved proposal for Anglo American after its $39 billion initial offer was rejected by the London-listed miner, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.

BHP is in discussion for revised proposal for Anglo American in the coming weeks, the source said. The deliberations are currently ongoing and it has not made a decision on the size and structure of the new proposal, the source added.

Police fire tear gas to disperse Benin wage protest Apr 27, 2024 11:18AM

COTONOU (Reuters) - Police in Benin fired tear gas to break up a protest over the cost of living called by trade unions and they arrested several senior union figures on Saturday, witnesses and union officials said.

Armed police blocked access to the labour council in the commercial capital Cotonou, surrounding the area where the demonstration was meant to take place and turning away journalists.

Russia says it struck Ukrainian energy plants in response to Kyiv targeting its own energy sector Apr 27, 2024 10:56AM

MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Russian Defence Ministry said on Saturday that its forces had carried out 35 strikes in the last week against Ukrainian energy facilities, defence factories, railway infrastructure, air defences, and ammunition stocks.

It said in a statement that the strikes, which spanned April 20-27, were "in response to attempts by the Kyiv regime to damage Russian energy and industrial facilities."
