US as many as 15 years behind China on nuclear power, report says Jun 17, 2024 12:04AM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. is as many as 15 years behind China on developing high-tech nuclear power as Beijing's state-backed technology approach and extensive financing give it the edge, a report said on Monday.

EU cybersecurity label should not discriminate against Big Tech, European groups say Jun 17, 2024 12:04AM

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - A proposed cybersecurity certification scheme (EUCS) for cloud services should not discriminate against Amazon, Alphabet's Google and Microsoft, 26 industry groups across Europe warned on Monday.

The European Commission, EU cybersecurity agency ENISA and EU countries will meet on Tuesday to discuss the scheme which has undergone several changes since ENISA unveiled a draft in 2020.

Europe must catch up in green tech race, Spain's climate minister says Jun 17, 2024 12:02AM

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The next European Commission must do more to help European industry catch up in the green tech race with China and the U.S., said Spain's climate and energy minister Teresa Ribera, a front-runner to be the EU's next head of green policies.

EU country leaders meet on Monday in Brussels to discuss the top jobs in the next European Commission, in which each of the 27 EU countries will have a member.

World falling behind on environment, health and hunger goals, UN report says Jun 16, 2024 11:56PM

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - The world is way off track on most of the sustainable development targets agreed in 2015, such as tackling poverty and hunger, says a United Nations report which cites funding shortfalls, geopolitical tensions and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thousands of Rohingya feared trapped in fighting in western Myanmar Jun 16, 2024 11:13PM

(Reuters) - Tens of thousands of Muslim minority Rohingya are feared to be caught in fighting in western Myanmar, as a powerful armed ethnic group bears down on junta positions in a coastal town on the country's border with Bangladesh.
