Israeli strike on Beirut on Friday killed 31, Lebanese ministry says Sep 21, 2024 05:50AM

BEIRUT/JERUSALEM (Reuters) - At least 31 people died in an Israeli airstrike on a Beirut suburb on Friday, the Lebanese health ministry said on Saturday, including three children and seven women, in the deadliest strike in a year of conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.

Hezbollah said overnight that the dead included 16 of its members, including senior leader Ibrahim Aqil and another top commander, Ahmed Wahbi.

Russia and China start naval exercises in Sea of Japan, agencies report Sep 21, 2024 05:23AM

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia and China started naval exercises in the Sea of Japan on Saturday, Russian news agencies cited Russia's Pacific Fleet as saying.

"A joint detachment of warships of the Pacific Fleet and Chinese Navy set out from Vladivostok to conduct the joint Russian-Chinese "Beibu/Interaction - 2024" naval exercise," the RIA news agency quoted the Pacific Fleet as saying.

India's Manipur on high alert over influx of 900 militants from Myanmar Sep 21, 2024 05:17AM

IMPHAL, India (Reuters) - India's northeastern state of Manipur has been placed on high alert after intelligence reports of a potential influx of 900 suspected Kuki militants from Myanmar, a senior security official said on Friday.

Kuldiep Singh, Manipur's security adviser, told reporters at a press briefing the information regarding the militants has been shared with various intelligence agencies.

SAIC Volkswagen says adjusting plant base "necessary" Sep 21, 2024 05:16AM

HONG KONG (Reuters) - SAIC Volkswagen, responding to reports it would close its Nanjing plant, said on Saturday that adjusting its production base was "normal and necessary", Chinese media outlet Yicai reported.

Reuters reported this week that Germany's Volkswagen plans to stop production at one of its combustion engine car plants in China, in a sign of automakers' struggles to manage overcapacity in the world's biggest car market.
