(Reuters) - Over 939,000 homes and businesses in Texas, Kentucky and other states were without power on Tuesday as storms continued to batter the region since the long Memorial Day holiday weekend, according to meteorologists and data from PowerOutage.us.

That is up from around 754,000 customer outages earlier on Tuesday.

US sanctions Chinese individuals over COVID-related fraud, bomb threats May 28, 2024 02:36PM

(Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury on Tuesday sanctioned three Chinese individuals and three Thai companies for involvement in a cybercrime network that it said made bomb threats and fraudulent applications for COVID-related aid, costing the government billions of dollars.

Mass wedding plans deferred in Nigeria, some girls, women marry privately May 28, 2024 02:35PM

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (Reuters) - Religious leaders and a state lawmaker suspended their plans for a mass wedding of 100 girls and young women in northwest Nigeria after it sparked outrage, but some were married in private ceremonies, the state assembly speaker and one of the girls said on Tuesday.

US expressed deep concern to Israel over Rafah airstrike, State Department says May 28, 2024 02:33PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States expressed deep concern to Israel's government over an airstrike in Rafah and urged an investigation as soon as it saw reports of the incident, the State Department said on Tuesday, adding that Washington will closely watch the results of Israel's probe.

Former general Golan wins Israeli Labour party leadership May 28, 2024 02:32PM

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel's center-left Labour party elected as its new leader Yair Golan, a former general who won widespread acclaim for rescuing people during the Oct 7 Hamas attack, the party said on Tuesday.

Golan, a military reservist who formerly served as a member of parliament for the left-wing Meretz party, won 95% of the party vote.
