Lebanon moves towards accepting ICC jurisdiction for war crimes on its soil Apr 27, 2024 08:54AM

(Reuters) - Lebanon has moved towards accepting the International Criminal Court's jurisdiction to prosecute violations on Lebanese territory since October, in what Human Rights Watch said on Saturday was a "landmark step" towards justice for war crimes.

German chancellor shows support for debt brake reform in the future Apr 27, 2024 08:40AM

BERLIN (Reuters) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said for the first time on Saturday that he supports a reform of the country's constitutionally-enshrined debt brake, but does not currently see any possibility of doing it right now.

Altering the rules of the debt brake, which limits public deficits to 0.35% of gross domestic product, would require a two-thirds majority in the upper and lower houses of parliament.

MADRID (Reuters) -Thousands of Socialist Party supporters travelled from across Spain for a rally in Madrid on Saturday to call on Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to stay on, after he stunned the country this week by saying he might quit the premiership.

Germany needs an economic turnaround, says finance minister Lindner Apr 27, 2024 07:08AM

BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany needs an economic turnaround in order to secure its geopolitical position, German Finance Minister and head of the Free Democrats FDP Christian Lindner said on Saturday.

The German economy was the weakest among its large euro zone peers last year, as high energy costs, feeble global orders and record high interest rates took their toll.

This year will also be challenging for Europe's biggest economy.
