(Reuters) - Liberty Strategic Capital on Monday disclosed it held a 7.7% stake in regional lender New York Community Bancorp as of June 7.
Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's private equity firm was part of an investor consortium that invested roughly $1 billion in the bank in March.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Russian military has taken control of the village of Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, the Russian defence ministry said on Monday.
Ukraine's military made no such acknowledgment in a report issued late on Monday. It said Russian forces had tried to move forward near Staromaiorske and a nearby village, Vodiane, "but were unsuccessful. The defence forces control the situation."

BOGOTA (Reuters) - Chiquita Brands International must pay $38.3 million in damages to the families of eight Colombian men killed by a paramilitary group in that country, a Florida jury said on Monday.
Chiquita in 2007 was ordered by a U.S. court to pay a $25 million fine to settle criminal charges that it did business with the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC) paramilitary group.

HOUSTON (Reuters) - U.S. regulators on Monday ordered liquefied natural gas developer Venture Global LNG to provide its customers with documents about the mechanical problems and startup of a Louisiana plant.
Venture Global LNG's Calcasieu Pass plant has been at the center of a long-running dispute involving energy companies including BP, Shell and others over access to LNG from the plant.
