Josh Marshall to Provide Technical Interoperability Insights for CTA Web Application Video Ecosystem Project

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- uStudio Inc. today announced that co-founder and vice president of engineering Josh Marshall has joined the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™ Web Application Video Ecosystem (WAVE) Project. As a member of the Technical Working Group, Josh will help define the technical requirements to improve the handling of Internet-delivered commercial video on consumer electronics devices and reduce the difficulty faced by content creators in distributing video to CE devices.

The WAVE Project is a coordinated global drive that seeks to bring seamless compatibility of HTML5 video to embedded browsers in consumer devices. Through cross-industry collaboration, the WAVE Project will develop "profiles" or specifications referencing key features of industry standards for interoperable, commercial video delivery. These profiles will provide the common understanding of interoperability from the streaming content provider, through the content delivery networks to the edge, and at the device player. Founding members of the WAVE Steering Committee include leaders in content, infrastructure, technology and displays such as Adobe, Akamai, LG Electronics, Samsung, Sky, Sony, Starz and WWE.

“I’m honored to join the WAVE project, and grateful for the opportunity to work with such an impressive group of video technology leaders,” said Marshall. “We embraced HTML5 video early-on and it has already proven to have an enormous impact in how we consume and share content, and yet to reach its full potential it will require groups like WAVE to help focus and refine standards to ease adoption, integration and cross-vender compatibility, especially as a new generation of devices and delivery technologies threaten further fragmentation. I'm excited to be a part of the process.”

As the visionary behind uStudio’s technical strategy and roadmap, Josh led the development of the company’s patented video management and distribution platform, a highly modular, API-first solution that accelerates and optimizes the use of video across businesses – from marketing and sales to IT, training and customer support. uStudio’s innovative platform has been embraced by leading companies worldwide including Ace Hardware, Alcon Novartis, Keller Williams, Kohl’s, Panasonic, Universal Music Group, EMC, the University of Arkansas and Vail Resorts, and has helped the company forge strategic partnerships with leading vendors including Facebook, HP and Salesforce. As a result, uStudio has been named a Vendor to Watch in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Video Content Management, the most innovative video vendor by Aragon Research, and a leading online video platform by Forrester Research.
