Watertree Health® President Provides Statement on Continuing Rise in Prescription Drug Prices

June 29, 2016 5:02 PM EDT

DESTIN, Fla., June 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Last week, continued hikes in prescription prices prompted Consumer Reports to issue two stories on the same day: "Is There a Cure for High Drug Prices?" and "As Drug Prices Increase, Quality of Life Goes Down" The magazine reported that insufficient regulations have failed to protect patients from indefinite prices increases.  They noted, even generics, which typically get less expensive over time, have instead risen in price--including drugs for common conditions such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes.  According to Consumer Reports, over the past year, three in ten Americans were faced with price hikes an average of $63 more for a drug they had been taking.

Watertree Health President, Shane Power says, "We are very familiar with the impact of high drug prices on consumers, which Consumer Reports talked about in their articles. Our community-based reps have heard from people that, before using my Company's free prescription discount card, they were forced to spend less on food for their family or use their credit cards to pay for their medicine.  We have also been told they may have skipped doses of medicine, rationed pills or just not filled their prescriptions. This kind of behavior is dangerous to their health, and it costs every taxpayer in the long run.

We created our Greatest Prescription Savings℠ ("GPS") drug-price-lookup tool so people can see they can afford their prescriptions at their favorite pharmacy.  To use GPS, consumers simply enter the name of their prescription and zip code at wtree.us/savingstool. If they don't have a card already, they can get one on this website or by texting CARD to 95577. "
