U.S. Chamber Applauds House Judiciary Committee Passage of Fairness in Class Action Litigation Act

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Lisa A. Rickard, president of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR), made the following statement today about the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s passage of H.R. 1927, the “Fairness in Class Action Litigation Act of 2015” (FICALA):

“Class action lawsuits are supposed to be about efficient delivery of justice to individuals, but have become a tool of the plaintiffs’ lawyers to game the system of justice and inflate their compensation. The FICALA legislation would curb overbroad and no-injury class actions while preserving legitimately injured plaintiffs’ ability to sue, as well as resources to compensate them.

“We commend the House Judiciary Committee for passing this important legislation, and urge both the House and Senate to swiftly follow suit.”

ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the national, state, and local levels.
