Troy Community Consolidated School District 30 Will Implement STEMscopes NGSS Digital Curriculum in All Elementary and Middle Schools

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Beginning this August, Troy Community Consolidated School District 30-C (TCCSD) in northeast Illinois will integrate Accelerate Learning’s award-winning STEMscopes NGSS digital STEM curriculum into its curriculum in grades preK-8, district-wide. One of 18 states to adopt the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) thus far, Illinois has directed schools to begin implementing the new standards in the 2016-17 school year.

“When looking for a new science curriculum we wanted something that did more than just align to the NGSS. An inquiry-based approach was important to us, as well as something that was digital, but also hands on. And finally, we wanted something that addressed the needs of all student levels, and that would transition with them as they progressed through their years in our district. STEMscopes NGSS is the only product that met each and every one of our needs,” said Daniela Fountain, director of curriculum. “Our teachers are also thrilled with how intuitive the program is. STEMscopes NGSS allows teachers to feel confident coming out of the gate on the first day of school.”

Developed in conjunction with Rice University, STEMscopes provides digital resources, supplemental print materials, and hands-on exploration kits that build student engagement and excitement for learning. As with all of Accelerate Learning’s STEM solutions, inquiry-based investigation is at the core of STEMscopes NGSS. It fosters student understanding of science through meaningful hands-on investigations, engineering challenges, content connection videos, claim-evidence-reasoning assessments, and more.

“Transitioning to new standards is a difficult process, so we applaud the administrators at Troy Community Consolidated for taking the steps necessary to make it as easy as possible for their educators to move to the Next Generation Science Standards,” said Dr. Vernon Johnson, president and CEO of Accelerate Learning. “STEMscopes is the only solution that gives teachers everything they need to quickly transition to the NGSS and engage their students in the world of STEM. Using these tools, we’re certain Troy’s teachers and students will succeed like never before.”

In May, Accelerate Learning also added a variety of new resources to STEMscopes NGSS to deepen student engagement. They include: Science Today, a collection of Associated Press resources that provide current news and discoveries, aligned to the NGSS; Linking Literacy tools to enhance students’ literacy skills; Math Moments, Common Core-aligned lessons that incorporate math into science investigations, engineering challenges, and project-based learning tasks; EXPLAIN: Communicate, which fosters scientific argumentation and peer-to-peer communication skills using debate, dialogue, and oral presentation; and Support tools.
