Registration Open for Second Annual Point72 Asset Management Case Competition

September 14, 2015 4:46 PM EDT

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Point72 Asset Management L.P. (Point72) announced today that registration is open for its second annual Point72 Case Competition.

The Point72 Case Competition provides teams of college sophomores and juniors the opportunity to simulate the research investment professionals conduct in their daily professional lives. Teams must examine trends in a given market sector and offer analyses to support one long or short stock recommendation based on their findings.

In 2014, the first year of the Point72 Case Competition, more than 50 teams of three students from 16 colleges participated. The winner was the University of Texas at Austin team of Benedikt Kroll, Matthew Rindelaub, and Sulaiman Mahmood. A Cornell University team took second place and a University of Virginia team finished third.

In 2015, five finalist teams will share more than $25,000 in cash prizes, receive a mentoring session with one of Point72’s investment professionals, and will receive first consideration for interviews for a position as a Point72 Academy Summer Analyst.

Mr. Rindelaub was selected as 2015 Summer Analyst with the Point72 Academy and will join Point72 as a full-time employee in August 2016.

“The Case Competition provided us with a great way to meet and be mentored by Point72’s analysts and portfolio managers,” said Mr. Rindelaub.

“Not only does the case competition give these students an invaluable opportunity to take what they’ve learned in school and use those skills in a professional setting, it gives us a chance to meet the next generation of investing talent and show them what a great investment firm looks like,” said Jessica Anderson, Point72’s head of Investment Talent Development.

Registration for the 2015 Point72 Case Competition closes on September 22, and the deadline to submit final analyses is October 2. A team of judges from Point72 will select five student teams to participate in a final round presentation in October at the Firm’s New York City offices.

The Point72 Academy is a highly selective and rigorous training program that teaches recent college graduates to master the financial analysis and research skills necessary to contribute to investment recommendations. The Academy’s 10-week Summer Analyst program helps undergraduate rising seniors develop skills that are fundamental to the Firm’s investment process. Point72 investment professionals and external subject matter experts teach and develop Summer Analysts to create and refine financial models, conduct primary and industry-specific research, and prepare stock recommendations and complete projects.

Teams interested in registering should send the following information to the Case Competition team ([email protected]) by September 22, 2015: team name; participant names; designated captain; and email address and class year (sophomore/junior) for each participant.
