Kirkland’s Celebrates 50 Years of Home Décor and Gifts

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In 50 years, Kirkland’s has transformed from a small family business into a leading national retailer of home décor and gifts offering its customers a place to shop for all things trend-forward.

In 1966, Carl Kirkland founded the brand by opening a store in Jackson, Tenn., with the belief that great style should come at a great price. His cousin, Robert Kirkland, opened a similar store in Nashville, and the down-to-earth business model resonated with customers. The founders led the brand to success for more than 40 years from its Jackson, Tenn.-based headquarters.

In 2005, Kirkland’s strategically transitioned from in-mall locations to more convenient and visible shopping centers, enabling customers to easily purchase large furniture items. In 2014, Kirkland’s moved its headquarters office just outside of Nashville, still maintaining a Sales Support and Distribution Center in Jackson.

Now, 390 Kirkland’s stores span 36 states, and the retailer plans to surpass 400 stores before the end of the 2016 fiscal year. The retailer’s e-commerce website, kirklands.com, hosts more than 10,000 products. Last year, Kirkland’s net sales totaled $561.8 million, up more than 10 percent over the previous year.
