Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov is said to have tapped Evercore Partners as he looks to sell the Brooklyn Nets professional basketball team.

Bloomberg noted that Prokhorov holds 80 percent of the club and 45 percent of the Barclays Center.

Speculation has the Nets potentially drawing more than the $2 billion that Steve Ballmer paid to acquire the Los Angeles Clippers last year.

Bruce Ratner, a limited partner in the Nets and the majority stakeholder in the arena, previously hired Evercore to explore a sale of his 20 percent stake in the team, Bloomberg said.

Just one year back, Forbes estimated the worth of the Nets at around $780 million, which was made prior to Ballmer's Clippers acquisition.
