VIX at Yearly Highs
The VIX index, which reflects the implied volatility of the S&P 500 Index and is commonly referred to as the 'fear index', is posting yearly highs after trending north all week. The spike follows headlines out of Spain, as the country faces contagion fears after a reported 'run' on banks in Greece earlier this week.
The VIX is now well above the physiologically important 20 handle.
The VIX can be traded using the ETF, iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX).
