Barclays Read-throughs from AT&T/T-Mobile

Barclays analyst says, "We view AT&T's (NYSE: T) announced plans to acquire T-Mobile USA as a positive for VZ (NYSE: VZ) and a negative for Sprint (NYSE: S), the tower names, and DIRECTV (NYSE: DTV). We are buyers of DIRECTV and the tower names (American Tower (NYSE: AMT), Crown Castle (NYSE: CCI), SBA Communications (Nasdaq: SBAC)) on any weakness. We expect Sprint shares to be weak on Monday, as the deal leaves Sprint without an obvious way to gain scale."

"VZ Benefits From More Stable Long-term Market, Near-term Distraction at AT&T. We view this announced transaction as positive for Verizon, as, should it go through, it would likely result in a more stable, less aggressively competitive wireless market in the long term..."

"Net Negative for Towers, although Not a Pure Loss, Given Expanded LTE
Coverage. An AT&T/T-Mobile deal would be a net negative for towers, although not purely so. Currently, T-Mobile represents 8-10% of revenue for the US tower names (AMT, CCI, SBAC)..."

"Transaction Leaves Sprint Somewhat Out in the Cold. The announced deal leaves Sprint without an obvious way to gain scale, which we view as key if Sprint is to materially improve margins, and which we believe the market has been expecting, given recent press commentary about the prospects for a Sprint/T-Mobile combination (either through merger or network sharing)..."

"Modest Negative for DIRECTV (NYSE: DTV) Shares; We are Buyers on Any Weakness. This transaction clearly makes any AT&T acquisition of DIRECTV very unlikely. While we had not viewed that deal as at all probable, we would not be surprised to see some modest DTV weakness on the news. We would be buyers into any weakness, as we find DTV shares attractive at current levels in the absence of any deal premium."
