Game Console Momentum Will Carry Well Into 2014 (MSFT) (SNE)
Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) and Sony (NYSE: SNE) may see strong holiday sales for their respective net-gen gaming consoles, but some don't see momentum slowing any heading into 2014.
Digitimes said Thursday that component supply chain sources see Q114 orders at similar levels to November and December as consumers continue to grab up the Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4).
Sources see a slight slowdown in shipments during the Chinese New Year in February, but expect shipments to ramp again in March as more countries are added. For instance, Sony said the Japan wouldn't see PS4 shipments until February next year and that typically is a hot market for video game sales.
Suppliers also said that one company, which wasn't specified, changed the design on its motion sensor from having one glass and four plastic lenses to two glass and three plastic lenses.
Sony is expected to ship four million PS4 units before the end of March 2014, while Xbox One numbers weren't speculated.
Shares of Sony are flat early Thursday, while Microsoft is down about one percent.
