Tesla (TSLA) to Open Dealership in One of the Wealthiest U.S. Areas
The Washington Post (WaPo) noted today that Tesla won a plea to start selling its Model S directly to customers in Virginia. Currently, the company has a showroom in Tysons Corner Center, Fairfax County, Virginia, which is an area where most upper-crust politicians and governmental personnel reside. Wikipedia, which cites U.S. data has Fairfax at number four in the U.S. with an average household income of just over $107,000 per year (in 2012).
Tesla filed an app with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles last year to begin direct sales, which was rejected. The company subsequently filed a lawsuit against the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (VDMV). Following negotiations between Tesla, the State of Virginia, and the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association, the company will withdraw its lawsuit and will apply for a single dealership license with the Virginia Motor Vehicle Dealer Board for a potential Northern Virginia location.
It wasn't made clear whether Tesla would put its dealership. A spokesperson with the company said it is
currently evaluating other locations for the store and will continue to maintain the current gallery in Tysons Corner.
Share of Tesla are indicated for a higher Wednesday.
