Speculative Model 3 Images, Specs Circulate Ahead of Tesla's (TSLA) March 31st Event

(Updated - March 30, 2016 11:36 AM EDT)

While Tesla's (Nasdaq: TSLA) Model 3 won't be revealed until late Thursday, what could the vehicle possibly look like? Well, it's expected to be 20 percent smaller than the Model S and comparable in size to an Audi A4 or BMW 3-Series.

However, a few images are already circulating, proposing to be photos and/or renderings of the Model 3. We've embedded two such examples below.

And...

Our take is that the first image is simple a shrouded Model S, as the vehicle to the left in the photo looks like a Model X.

For the second photo, we initially questioned the area around the fog lamps being there given how Tesla was to have a low coefficient of drag with the vehicle, but the Model S also appears to have the same feature. But, the wheels appear to be a little fuzzy, indicating a not-so-great photoshop job by the artist.

So, speculation will probably continue for the next 36 hours. We suspect that Tesla isn't planning to "leak" any Model 3 pictures ahead of the event unlike a certain tech company based in Cupertino.

UPDATE - More info has leaked on the Model 3 today.

Electrek.co noted that Tesla is probably working on multiple versions of the Model 3 and that it will look like a mix between the Model S and Model X. The design is shorter and narrower than either, but a source with information said that it seems "so right" for the vehicle.

The Model 3 is also expected to go from zero to 60 MPH in under 4 seconds. We're going to label this is "highly speculative," though a premium version with larger battery and all-wheel drive is more than likely able to achieve that number.
