(Reuters) -The New York Times Co beat quarterly profit expectations on Wednesday as its advertising business showed signs of recovery, eclipsing slower growth in digital subscriptions and sending its shares 12% higher.

The New York Times Co. (NYSE: NYT) reported Q2 EPS of $0.36, $0.09 better than the analyst estimate of $0.27. Revenue for the quarter came in at $498.5 million versus the consensus estimate of $487.68 million.
