Investors Buy into Alcatel (ALU) Following Nokia Siemens Update (NOK) (SI)

Alcatel Lucent SA (NYSE: ALU) is making strong gains Thursday, following better-than-expected second-quarter results from peer Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK).
Nokia posted a quarterly loss of €0.08 per share versus consensus expectations calling for a loss of €0.09 per share. For more on Nokia's report, click here.
Key for Alcatel was that Nokia Siemens Networks, Nokia's partnership with Siemens AG (NYSE: SI), returned to non-IFRS profitability. Looking ahead, Nokia also said it expects Nokia Siemens to increase its operating margin on a non-IFRS basis above the 0.8 percent reported in the recent quarter.
Following a modest 1.8 percent drop Wednesday, Alcatel is up 6.9 percent.Thursday.
