From burnt turkeys to disastrous decorations, we’ve curated a collection of hilarious and cringeworthy moments captured on camera during festive celebrations. These images will have you reconsidering your RSVP to the next holiday shindig.

So grab your eggnog and brace yourself for a rollercoaster of holiday mishaps that will leave you grateful for your own less-than-perfect gatherings. Let’s dive in and discover the lighter side of holiday chaos!

1. Someone Forgot The Elf on The Shelf

What Happened: A melted EOTS
Est. Cost: $30*

Elf on the Shelf is a beloved Christmas tradition, where people buy an elf and rearrange him in various ways throughout the holiday season. It’s a lot of fun to see where your EOTS will end up day after day.

But, you have to remember where you put it. This person put theirs in the oven, only to forget about it and cook the Elf to a crisp. He looks rather helpless, as though wondering why he’s getting baked at 400 degrees.

2. Drooping

What Happened: A drooping tree
Est. Cost: N/A

Even this tree finds the holidays exhausting. This Christmas tree looks as though it’s about two seconds away from laying down in the street. No doubt, it’s tired of having to entertain passersby and people driving past.

Its top third is drooping ever downward, and who knows if it made it through the actual holiday? Structural issues aside, this tree is still very pretty, even if it needs to stand up a bit taller and straighter.

3. A Big Mess

What Happened: Broken Christmas tree
Est. Cost: Hours to clean

Christmas trees can be very, very delicate, particularly when they are covered with glass ornaments just looking for any excuse to fall off the tree and break into a million little pieces. This scene brings a pang to our hearts, as it is a total mess.

Kids, pets, clumsy adults who’ve had too much eggnog…the list of suspects goes on and on. This will take hours to clean up, and replacing all of those shattered ornaments is not going to be cheap.

4. Cat Vs. Christmas Photo

What Happened: Cat photobombing
Est. Cost: A new, cat-less photo

Cats love photobombing, which is pretty interesting, considering they are animals who shouldn’t know what cameras even are. This family was trying to take a cute pajama photo when their cat stepped into the photo.

Instead of a proper photoshoot, this family photo mostly has this kitty’s fluffy head in it. Really, this picture could work for the Christmas card, as it encapsulates what it is like to own a mischievous cat.

5. Christmas Traveling With A Toddler

What Happened: A toddler being a toddler
Est. Cost: A tantrum

“This basically sums up traveling [for Christmas] with our toddler.” That was the caption assigned to this photo, which features an airport at Christmas time and a toddler who just wasn’t having it.

The toddler decided to do what toddlers do and simply throw himself onto the floor, dramatically and theatrically, to express how he was feeling. Are we surprised? No. Do we sympathize with the parents? Absolutely. Toddlers are gonna toddler.

6. Somebunny Melted

What Happened: A melted Easter Bunny mess
Est. Cost: $25*

The Chocolate Easter Bunny, a seasonal icon eagerly awaited by children, took an unexpected turn when one forgetful individual left it in their car. Intended to bring joy and chocolatey delight, this bunny found itself in a sticky situation as temperatures soared inside the vehicle.

Slowly but surely, it succumbed to the heat, transforming into a gooey mess reminiscent of a Salvador Dali painting. With its once-smooth surface now resembling a Picasso-esque abstraction, the bunny seemed to wonder how it ended up in such a predicament. Lesson learned: always check your backseat for forgotten holiday treats before they become modern art installations!

7. Iceland At Christmas

What Happened: A massive snowstorm
Est. Cost: N/A

This person’s sister rented an apartment in northern Iceland for Christmas, and this was “her view.” The person posted it online, receiving a lot of both sympathetic and horrified comments in response. We hope sis isn’t claustrophobic.

Visiting northern Iceland in winter is not for the weak (it’s in the name, after all). Though you can see amazing sights, such as the aurora borealis (the Northern Lights), you can also get buried by intense winter storms, as this woman did.

8. Love Is Not Unconditional

What Happened: A funny Christmas card
Est. Cost: $5*

Posted on X by Will Keible (back when X was still Twitter), the caption with this photo read, “I learned this morning that my parents’ unconditional love expires on New Year’s Eve.” The card showed a lovely note from Mom and Dad.

Love Is Not Unconditional @WillKeible/Pinterest Love Is Not Unconditional @WillKeible/Pinterest

The note meant well; it was just phrased oddly. “Next year will be different” hopefully has a positive spin to it, referring to the next year being better for Keible. That’s the meaning we’re going with.

9. “Cute Picture”

What Happened: A very annoyed dog takes a picture
Est. Cost: N/A

This poster was watching their friend’s dog while the friend was gone, and the poster wanted to see if he or she could get a “cute picture for them” for Christmas. However, this old pup was just not having that idea.

"Cute Picture” @Pinner62764345/Pinterest "Cute Picture” @Pinner62764345/Pinterest

So, the picture ended up an “accidental gem/nightmare.” This dog has had enough of the Christmas spirit, and you can tell from his irate look that this is not the first time he has been forced into a ridiculous costume.

10. Sorry, What?

What Happened: A very creepy Christmas card
Est. Cost: $5*

What in the Luke and Leia is going on here? This Christmas card has us checking our vision to make sure we’re reading it right. It says, “Merry Christmas to my wonderful boyfriend and brother.”

Sorry, What? @boredpanda/Pinterest Sorry, What? @boredpanda/Pinterest

Perhaps it means brother and brother’s boyfriend? We’ll take that open-minded, socially acceptable concept over the one that this card appears to be presenting. This card should be hidden in the back of the store, not displayed.

11. Font Is Important

What Happened: Bad font choice
Est. Cost: $5-$10*

Posted online, this photo is yet another example on this list of why font choice is so important. This is supposed to read “FLICKERING,” but the font makes the “I” and “L” look as though they’ve been conjoined into a “U.”

Font Is Important @Pinner62764345/Pinterest Font Is Important @Pinner62764345/Pinterest

The result is an accidentally-inappropriate box that people are sure to take out of context. Though putting up Christmas lights might make you think that word, you don’t want it printed on the box, do you?

12. Cookies For Satan

What Happened: Misspelled Santa
Est. Cost: $4.99*

“Satan” and “Santa” are cursed with having two pretty similar names. One just has a bit of a different spelling than the other. Oh, and one gives gifts to kids while the other is evil (depending on your religion, that is).

Cookies For Satan @Pinner62764345/Pinterest Cookies For Satan @Pinner62764345/Pinterest

“Cookies for Satan” cost $4.99 at this store. “Satan” is obviously a misspelling, unless there is some Satanic cult at the local grocery store we don’t know about (we thought the Satanic panic was left in the eighties).

13. As Seen At A Mall

What Happened: Ugly mall Christmas tree
Est. Cost: $100-$200*

There’s nothing wrong with a normal-shaped Christmas tree, and, when you try to get too weird with the design, it gets mocked. This photo of a minimalist mall Christmas tree with lights went viral as a result of its strangeness.

As Seen At A Mall @Pinner62764345/Pinterest As Seen At A Mall @Pinner62764345/Pinterest

This looks like a giant blob, not an actual tree. Mall Christmas decorations are supposed to be super traditional, almost to the point of tackiness. That’s part of the magic—not whatever this is supposed to be.

14. Photoshoot Sheep

What Happened: Sheep photoshoot gone wrong
Est. Cost: N/A

Sheep don’t care about being photogenic, as you can see from this picture. The person here was trying to do a photoshoot for their Christmas card, with their sheep as the focal point. The sheep, however, weren’t having it.

Photoshoot Sheep @boredpanda/Pinterest Photoshoot Sheep @boredpanda/Pinterest

They clearly didn’t care about the naughty list, as they knocked over the farmer, who was dressed in her holiday best. Really, this photo is hilarious, and it would make a good contestant for the Christmas card.
